Each month, we publish a clear, easy-to-read summary of the Board of Education meeting so you can quickly understand the topics discussed, decisions made, and what's coming next for our district. It's one more way we're working to provide transparency and keep our community connected.
Here are four of the biggest topics from the July meeting:
Community Planning Continues
The district's next Community Engagement Session for the Facilities Master Planning process is scheduled for Thursday, August 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Hillsboro Intermediate School. Community members are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and help shape the future of Hillsboro R-3 schools.
New School Safety Investments
The Board received updates on the district's expanding School Safety Officer program, welcomed new Director of School Safety Nino Dicandia, and approved advanced weapons detection systems for Hillsboro Junior High and Hillsboro High School as part of the district's ongoing commitment to protecting students and staff.
Budget & Taxpayer Update
The district continues its commitment to responsible financial stewardship. Hillsboro R-3 has retired all voter-approved general obligation bond debt while lowering its tax levy for the sixth consecutive year, with the FY27 tax rate projected to be the lowest in Jefferson County.
Preparing for the New School Year
The July meeting also included important back-to-school reminders, including school start dates, vacation planning resources, athletic season information, and updates families should know before students return on August 24th.
